A True Story Of How A Microchip Reunited An Owner With Her Lost Pet

A client brought a cat in one day to be spayed and vaccinated. The owner listed the cat as a stray. Anytime a stray animal comes to our clinic, we first scan for a microchip. This cat had a microchip. She obviously currently belonged to someone or had belonged to someone. There could be a great chance that someone was looking for their pet and missed them dearly.

We contacted the microchip company who then traced the chip to the registered owner. The cat belonged to a woman in New Orleans! We then spoke to the client who brought the cat in and informed her of the microchip. The client told us that she had found the cat in an alley in New Orleans when she was there on a business trip. We then contacted the registered owner of the cat.

When we told the registered owner that we had her cat, she burst into tears. Three months earlier, the hurricanes and storms that ripped through New Orleans had severely damaged her house. All three of her cats went missing. She found two of them, but the third cat was never found. She thought that she had lost her forever.

The client was very happy that the cat had a loving home waiting back in New Orleans for her. The client took frequent business trips to New Orleans. She returned the cat to her owner during her next trip.

This is just one story of many about how microchips reunite lost pets with their owners. The cat in the story was a completely indoor cat. Misfortunes lead her to find her way outside. She then found her way from New Orleans to Marietta. Without a microchip, her owner would have lost her forever.

Don’t take a chance on losing your pet because he or she is not micro chipped. Do not think that Rabies tags and ID tags will always help your pet find its way home. Tags can easily fall off or the entire collar my fall off. A microchip becomes a permanent part of your pet.

Don’t make the mistake and think that your pet is in door only, never goes outside, and will never go outside. Accidents and unexpected events do occur just as in this story. Don’t make the mistake and think that no one will scan your pet if he/she does get out. We scan. So do most veterinary clinics, shelters, and animal control facilities.

PLEASE, MICROCHIP YOUR PET!
